What do we offer?

Swindon Libraries and Information Service offers a comprehensive range of resources to promote literacy and reading for pleasure. 

Many of our services are available free of charge, including quality book stock, free School Class Library Cards whereby you can take out up to 40 items for 6 weeks, a range of activities for children and families, online resources and our Summer Reading Challenge.

We also offer quality workshops and services to support you in bringing stories, books and information to life.

We can offer:

  • Bringing Story Time to Life - A ½ day workshop for Teachers and TAs on best practice for bringing stories alive and running story and rhyme times. (Adaptable for Pre School, Key Stage 1 and/or 2)  
     
  • Delivering Story Time - An interactive session for pre-school & Key Stage 1 pupils, bringing our knowledgeable experience & resources to suit your requirements. This session also works well as peer-modelled training for your staff.
     
  • “Fun with Stories”- A linked series of 6 workshops for parents of KS1 children highlighting the importance of and encouraging the sharing of stories.
     
  • “Advanced Internet Searching and Website Evaluation for Teachers and TAs" - This course comprises 2 modules aimed at both enhancing searching abilities and also appraising the quality of online information.
  • “Book Collection Appraisal, Selection and Supply” - Our trained professional Librarians can refresh specific subjects or even your whole school library supplying the stock at competitive rates!
  • Class Visits - Staffed visits to our Core or Community Libraries offering activities and an introduction to the Library and its services.

Swindon Libraries and Information Service offer a full range of book stock and other materials which support reading and learning for pleasure and a wide range of topics. This also includes training packages to support using library resources.

All sessions and training courses are delivered by qualified experienced library staff who are also Nursery Nurses and Teachers.

What is provided free?

Library membership, loan of books, and general class visits which includes a brief introduction to the library service as a whole.

What is chargeable? 

There are charges for the workshops and training courses. 

How the service can be provided/length of agreement 

General class visits can be booked as one-off or on-going sessions which are booked in advance.  Workshops run as detailed above but must all be booked in advance.
